Description
Derthona Vigneti Massa is an iconic and representative white wine, produced by the true pioneer of Timorasso in Italy. There are not many cases in which the idea of a vine is made to coincide almost entirely with a winemaker, and when this happens it means that we are dealing with a real flag, capable of revaluing and relaunching a territory, just as in the case of Walter Massa with Timorasso and the Tortona Hills. Histrionic and a profound connoisseur of the vineyard and the territory, Walter took over the reins of the family winery in the 70s, but decided to make a radical change in local viticulture, favoring local varieties, limiting yields and limiting treatments in the vineyard to a minimum, but above all sensing the enormous potential of Timorasso and making it the main white grape variety local. The wines, which range from deep and territorial reds to long-range whites, are real pieces of Italian wine history, a must in the cellar of every enthusiast.
Derthona wine takes its name from one of the most famous crus used in Timorasso, and Walter’s wine is a pure expression of the vine of the same name. In the vineyard, as already mentioned, the least possible interventionism is practiced, and in the cellar it proceeds consistently, with alcoholic fermentations that take place spontaneously and aging of the liquid on the fine lees.
