Grace Family 2009 Blank Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Enjoyabilityfactor 96 Rating
Like other family-founded wineries in Napa Valley, Grace Family Vineyards started small, more a dream than a business. It was 1976 and San Francisco stockbroker Richard Grace and his wife bought an old home in St. Helena to raise their family in the country. The couple planted a one-acre vineyard and two years later harvested their first real crop, which they sold to Caymus Vineyard. The Grace family’s grapes were used by Caymus until 1983, when the Grace Family started making their own wine. These days the Graces cultivate a number of vineyards, though production remains highly limited. Only Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown, and Grace Family wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are prized for their opulence and rich flavors. They are generally available only through a mailing list. Annual production is 200 cases.
Robert Foley Vineyards 2014 Kelly’s Mountain Cuvee Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Enjoyabilityfactor 95 Rating
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Atlas Peak. The 2014 vintage produced fruit with firm acidity, small berries, and soft tannins. On the nose, there’s black fruit, black berry, black current–screaming with ripeness. Full-bodied on the palate, with a rich mid-palate, fine tannins, and smooth finish, which, with the wine’s natural acidity, goes on and on and on.
Chateau Montelena 2005 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is still rich and powerful, with Bordeaux-like notes of blackcurrants, tobacco leaf, damp earth, cedar, and dried herbs. Deep, rich, and beautifully textured, with balance and length, it has silky tannins, a layered, clean texture and a great finish. It’s another balanced, oh, so classic wine.
Turnbull 2019 Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Wine Enthusiast 95 Rating A Cellar Selection
From a pair of vineyards in the appellation, this wine is earthy in tobacco, sage and black currant. With admirable length and breadth, it features rich berry fruit adorned in a touch of molasses, dried herb and oak, deliciously built for the long haul. Enjoy best from 2029 to 2039.
Plumpjack 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley California
Antonio Galloni 95 Rating Vivino 4.6 Rating
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is every bit the charmer it was last year. Sumptuous and bold, with bright acids, the 2018 is absolutely gorgeous. I especially admire the energy and vibrancy here. Black cherry, plum, spice and new leather build into the vivid, beautifully delineated finish. In a word: Superb.
Silver Oak 2017 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon California
James Suckling 96 Rating
This is a big upgrade in finesse and clarity to such a popular, premium cabernet from Napa. It shows lots of blackberry, tar, cedar and oak-tree aromas that follow through to a full yet toned palate of fine, integrated tannins and a vivid finish. Owner David Duncan explained that the American oak they use in the wine for aging now comes 100% from their own barrel-making facilities, which tones down the vanilla character in the wine. Really impressive and delicious. It’s a joy to drink now, but can age.
