  • Kistler Vineyards 2022 ‘Les Noisetiers’ Chardonnay

    $64.99

    Sonoma Coast California
This ‘Les Noisetiers’ Chardonnay is Kistler’s multi-vineyard Chardonnay bottling based on the three Sonoma Coast vineyards from which they bottle single vineyard examples; Vine Hill, Trenton Roadhouse and Dutton Ranch. ‘Noisetiers’ means ‘hazelnut’ in French and “refers to the lightly toasted hazelnut characters manifested year in and year out from these sites.” As with the vineyard-designates, this wine is barrel fermented and aged on the lees in 25% new three year air-dried French oak barrels for 11 months, after which time it is transferred to stainless steel tank for another three months of aging before bottling.

  • Kistler Vineyards 2022 Chardonnay Sonoma Mountain

    $69.99

    California
The wines from 2022, the second of three consecutive cooler vintages for Kistler, offer a distinct character of freshness and a perfect sense of being just ripe throughout. The growing season could very well be described as being verdant. Good rains that moved them away from but not entirely out of the drought in the winter led to a cool wet spring and a mild summer with wetting rains across both seasons. Naturally low crops and a clement tone to the late summer weather led to good concentration and acid retention in the fruit. The winery avoided the pronounced Labor Day heat wave, finishing the last of our picks as it settled in thereby capturing the fresh nature of the vintage.

From a site that was decimated with regards to yields, the 2015 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard comes from a very diverse site that has varying soil types and elevations. At the top, it's primarily iron, volcanic soils, with some clay, but as you move down the vineyard you find more chert (seabed soils) and clay/loam. Kosta Browne owns a full 36 acres of the site, with lots of varying clones, and this is one of the larger production cuvee. The 2015 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard is smoking good and just loaded with notions darker fruits, caramelized blackberries, smoked earth, and pepper. Big, rich and textured on the palate, with a smoking good texture, this is one of the larger scaled, richer wines in the lineup. R38-5 SP10-5
