James Suckling 98 Rating
Blackberries, blackcurrants and hints of mint. Full-bodied with very fine, velvety tannins. Turns firm and structured with a fine chewiness and a caressing mouth-feel. Lively, too…Very attractive now, but will be better in four to five years. Try after 2026. R9-6 -

Paitin 2015 Serraboella Barbaresco
$44.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Spectator 94 Rating
Hay, freshly cut grass and loam aromas segue to a core of cherry that pulls this together. The sweet fruit handles the burly tannins well, ending in a cascade of eucalyptus and tobacco notes. Best from 2023 through 2043. R10-2 -
Palmaz Vineyards 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$129.99California
Shy at first, the 2019 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine that takes its time to show its true characteristics. Dark fruit and toasted oak explode from the glass to invite you in. Once the wine opens up, currants, smoky oak and bold tannins round out a luscious mid-palate. Patience is key for the 2019 vintage, revealing more complexity as it opens up in the glass. The wine’s long finish leaves a hint of toasted caramel on the good-bye. A Cabernet braised steak or grilled tomahawk would be a perfect companion to this bold beauty. Anticipate the wine to age elegantly through 2030. R5-1

Palmaz Vineyards 2019 Chardonnay Amalia Napa Valley
$59.99California
The 2019 vintage of Amalia Chardonnay is the epitome of summer. Hints of honeysuckle and kiwi rise from the glass as you swirl. Unlike its namesake, the Amalia Chardonnay is shy at first. But soon it becomes synonymous with the Palmaz matriarch, warm and inviting. Meyer lemon rind and hints of tropical banana balance seamlessly with a full-bodied mouthfeel and well-integrated oak. Will do lovely with age, but don’t fret if you open a bottle now, the wine would be a perfect finishing touch to any summer gathering. R13-1

Paolo Scavino 2015 Barolo
$59.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Advocate 93 Rating
For a few years running now, this has been one of the Scavino family’s signature bottles. The goal here is to aim higher than your standard “base” or “classico” Barolo. The Paolo Scavino 2015 Barolo is made with a complicated blend of fruit from seven vineyard sites spread clear across the appellation from Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, Serralunga d’Alba and more townships. Each parcel is fermented separately, and some parcels are split into two or more individual fermentations. In order to maintain the highest quality standards, some 10% of the fruit is sold off as bulk, and once the overall selection is whittled down, the best fruit remains in-house. This is a compact and darkly saturated wine with bold blueberry and blackberry fruit. The wine shows a steady center of gravity in this warm, fruit-driven vintage. R45-1 -
Paolo Scavino 2016 Barolo Monvigliero
$79.99Piedmont Italy
Wine Enthusiast 97 Rating
Iris, woodland berry, menthol and exotic spice scents shape the enticing nose. It’s firm and elegantly structured, delivering red cherry, spiced cranberry and licorice before a minty finish. Finegrained tannins and fresh acidity lend balance and support. Hold for even more complexity. Drink 2026–2036. SP46-2 -
Paolo Scavino 2016 Barolo Riserva
$299.99 – $1,500.00Piedmont Italy
James Suckling 100 Rating
Wow! There’s so much going on here. The nose presents an intense mix of dried cherry and red-berry fruit and rose petals, together with mild spice, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco dried apricot and dried and fresh nuts. Much more if you dig in. Full-bodied, super-relaxed palate that is the perfect display case for all the complex fruit character. The tannins are dense but seamless, never displaying any angular edge. Super-long and super concentrated, this is hard to fault. Yet, despite all the seeming extravagance, it remains a composed red with a long life ahead of it. Drink at your leisure.
