There is a sense of translucence in the 2016 that is just compelling. Deceptive in its mid-weight structure, the 2016 has a ton of richness that emerges over time. Lots of ripe black fruit with a smoky edge. Dried violets, too. Full-bodied with lots of charred oak to the fruit, but there’s enough blackberry there to give a long, savory fruit finish. No real complexity to the wine, but it’s well constructed. The riserva oak makes it feel bigger than it actually is. Drinkable now, but will hold for a few years, too.
