Vallisto 2018 Malbec
$15.99 – $156.00Calchaqui Valley Argentina
Antonio Galloni Vinous 93 Rating
The 2018 Malbec, 100% Calchaqui Valley was 1/3 raised for a year in barrels of various ages. Violet in the glass with a slight glow, the aromas of plum and blueberry with licorice and balsamic traces, beeswax and a hint of violet. The excellent palate is both fleshy and juicy and maintains both its volume and easygoing nature even with the active tannins guiding the way. A red best drunk in a couple of years.

Velenosi 2023 Pecorino Villa Angela Offida
$21.99 – $204.00Marche Italy
Vinous 89 Rating
The 2023 Pecorino Offida Villa Angela is sharply focused with a pungent whiff of grapefruit and lemon zest, further complicated by wild herbs and crushed stone. This is round and soothing, with a balanced inner sweetness offset by sour lime and crisp green apple. It finishes short yet clean and refreshing, leaving a hint of tart citrus rind concentration. If tasting blind, I could mistake this for a rich and powerful New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. That said, it’s opulent, balanced and thoroughly satisfying.

Venge 2018 Bone Ash Cabernet Sauvignon
$169.99Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 96 Rating
Another gem of a wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Bone Ash has a richer, full-bodied, concentrated style that will benefit from bottle age. More backward notes of darker currants, tobacco, chocolate, and lead pencil give way to a layered, seamless beauty that builds nicely with time in the glass, offering terrific tannins, the purity of fruit that's the hallmark of the vintage, an expansive texture, and a great finish. Don't be afraid to throw this in a decanter if drinking any time soon, and it's going to have 20-25 years of overall longevity. SP25-10 -

Incredibly smooth. Eight acres of gnarly old-vine Zinfandel from the Signal Fire Vineyard, located in northern Calistoga, produce this dense wine with loads of blackberries, white pepper spice, sweet honeysuckle, and crushed herbs. This is approachable upon release and will age when cellared correctly, for 5 to 8 years..

Venge 2022 Scout’s Honor Proprietary Red
$39.99 – $360.00Napa Valley California
Enjoyabilityfactor 93 Rating
This has a gorgeous, concentrated assemblage of sweet honeysuckle, crushed blue herbs, aromas of violets, anise, and a touch of vanillin. On the palate is pure richness from the old-vine Zinfandel with loads of super ripe black fruits and currants, pepper spice, and an enveloping masculinity of char and tannins from the Syrah, Charbono and Petite Sirah. A seamless balance and mouth coating deliciousness are found throughout the palate, with an extra-long finish that is quite pleasing to the senses.

Venge Vineyards 2021 Silencieux Cabernet Sauvignon
$64.99 – $330.00Napa Valley California
The highest quality crop not witnessed in years. I know, I put a lot of eggs in the basket of vintage 2018. However, friends, brace yourself for some delicious, superior quality wines coming from 2021. Across the board—from Chardonnay through to Cabernet Sauvignon— we are looking at magnificent concentrations of color and flavor that forecast a stellar vintage to come.
There is something magical that happens to a vineyard when water is scarce. Cluster sets are reduced naturally, grape size shrinks the skin-to-pulp ratio, and energy is driven to protect the crop that is left. We manually thin in all vintages to balance the ratios on the vine; however, it is Mother Nature’s culling that always works wonders for producing wines of profound resilience. The only downside in this natural selection scenario is crop yield. Vintage 2021 will see significant reductions in yield from 30% to 50% less than normal years. R5-3

Wonderfully aromatic and expressive, the 2022 vintage opens with scents of sweet cassis, anise, blackberries, roasted coffee, blue herbs and barrel vanillin. On the palate, the tannins are firm, upfront and balanced throughout, with all pockets of the mouth left yearning for another sip. Full-bodied and extracted with ripe black fruit, blueberries, charred caramel and a delightful hint of fresh herbs that concentrate into a lengthy finish. This wine is approachable upon release and cellar worthy in proper aging conditions. regular $69.99

Verite 2017 La Joie
$399.99Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 100 Rating

Tasting like a great bottle of Château Lafite, the 2017 La Joie is based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon and brought up, I suspect, in mostly new French oak. Deep ruby/purple, with a heavenly bouquet of crème de cassis, lead pencil, cedarwood, graphite, and tobacco, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, an incredible sense of elegance and purity, building tannins, and a great, great finish. This majestic, regal Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is going to require a decade of cellaring to hit maturity (although it’s far from unapproachable today) and will see its 50th birthday in fine form. I followed this bottle for three days and it never showed a hint of oxidation. This is easily my wine of the vintage in 2017. R20-2
