Castello dei Rampolla 2018 d’Alceo Toscana
$184.99Tuscany Italy
Vinous 99 Rating
The 2018 D’Alceo is a wild, exotic wine. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot come together in a wine that is sumptuous, layered and exceptionally beautiful. Inky blue/purplish fruit, sage, mint, lavender and chocolate are some of the many notes that take shape. The 2018 was fermented in cement then aged 12 months in a combination of 500L tonneaux and barriques. This really blooms with time. Castello dei Rampolla’s Sammarco and D’Alceo have been benchmarks for several decades. Both 2018s will take their place among the best wines ever made here. Maurizia di Napoli and her brother, Luca, craft wines of notable intensity and pedigree. Biodynamic farming and low intervention winemaking are the rule. Of the two flagship wines, D’Alceo is a bit more opulent, likely because the terraced vineyards are south and south-east facing, while Sammarco has a bit more tannic backbone and energy. Both are off the charts great. SP44-6 -

Juicy and delicious, this opens with aromas of iris, rose, dried aromatic herbs and wild berries. Smooth and medium-bodied, the palate features succulent Marasca cherry, ripe raspberry, ground clove and crushed mint set against taut, finegrained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Perfumed and beautiful with flowers, cherries and raspberries. Forest fruits, too. Full-bodied with extremely fine tannins that run the length of the wine and are wonderfully integrated, spreading across the palate. Lasts for minutes. Better after 2025, but already fantastic.

Castello Di Bogheri 2018 Varvara
$36.99 – $204.00Bolgheri Italy
Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The popular Castello di Bolgheri 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Varvàra opens to sultry dark fruit with measured layers of tobacco and leather. This wine shows a smoky and savory side that is rendered brighter and more intense thanks to the crisp plum, blackberry and black cherry found at its core. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with 20% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, and this wine gives you a classic taste of Bolgheri with its chestnut trees, cypresses and Mediterranean shrub oak. This is the ultimate trattoria choice, especially when grilled steak or funghi porcini are on the menu.

Castello di Bossi 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

There’s purity to the cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral and herb aromas and flavors in this solidly built red, which shows excellent balance and length. The muscular finish begs for more time for the beautiful fruit to assimilate. Best from 2025 through 2042. R17-1 -

Castello di Monsanto 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva

Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva is 90% Sangiovese and the rest Canaiolo and Colorino, raised only in used barrique and large cask. It pours a pure ruby and has floral and herbal aromas of cherry candy, black raspberry, forest herbs, tomato leaf, and dried roses. It is medium to full bodied, with good concentration, fine tannins, and a long, clean finish, and it is savory with dried herbs, oregano, dried cherry, salty earth, and an angular structure. This pure and detailed wine is going to be a fantastic one to cellar and to drink 2025-2040.
