The 2019 Blueline Merlot checks in as 82% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Aged 18 months in French oak, it's a ripe, sexy, beautifully textured Merlot revealing plenty of red and blue fruits as well as notes of tobacco and sappy flowers. It's ripe but also balanced, and it’s already drinking brilliantly. SP17-2 -

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is another fabulous wine in this range from Hourglass. It possesses tremendous depth and gravitas. Dark fruit, graphite, spice, chocolate and new leather all build as this potent, extroverted wine shows off its personality. St. Helena's Northern Corridor is famous for big, dramatic Cabernets. The Hourglass Cabernet is a terrific example. I loved the 2019 from barrel and am every bit as enthusiastic today. What a wine!

Hunnicutt 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$79.99California
Enjoyabilityfactor 94 Rating
In the glass, rich aromas of blackberry, crème de cassis and chocolate covered cherries mingle with a flinty minerality and hints of anise. This wine has an abundant entry with lush red and black fruit notes, showcasing the interplay of Cabernet and Merlot in the blend. Subtle expressions of oak, espresso and caramel rise up in the mid-palate and form a beautifully structured finish of fine grain dusty tannins. SP22-1 R43-3 -

il Poggione 2015 Brunello di Montalcino
$79.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 97 Rating
The Il Poggione 2015 Brunello di Montalcino shows a darker and more concentrated appearance than many of its peers. The wine is beautifully abundant and fragrant in the most exuberant and expressive manner. You will recognize aromas of moist soil, tobacco and smoke. Candied cherry hovers over the entire bouquet. Fruit is sourced from older vines (all over 25 years old). Il Poggione occupies a special spot within the Montalcino appellation, and the area always produces slightly more concentrated and powerful wines. I find that to be particularly true in this gorgeous 2015 vintage. I am also very attracted to that almost dusty note of crushed mineral that rides long on the full-bodied finish. Il Poggione's Brunello is also distinguished by firm, youthful tannin that need a few more years to unwind. Luckily, there are quite a few bottles to go around, with some 200,000 made. R3-2 R43-4 -
Immortal Estate 2014 Impassible Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
$299.99Sonoma County California
Jeb Dunnuck 99 Rating
All from estate fruit, the 2014 Impassible Mountain is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 27 months in 75% new French oak. It reveals a deeper ruby/purple color as well as a beautiful perfume of blackcurrants, mulled spice, graphite, crushed rock, and earth. Incredibly deep, full-bodied, and opulent, yet always with a sense of purity, minerality, and length, it's a monumental wine that builds on the palate, has ultra-fine tannins, no hard edges, and an awesome finish. A smaller selection and also all Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 Impassible Mountain (28 months in 85% new French oak) offers more of everything and is a magical, blockbuster, yet ethereal styled Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma. With a kaleidoscopic array of crème de cassis, sagebrush, tobacco, cedar pencil, and awesome minerality, it has incredible concentration, full-bodied richness, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel, yet it also stays weightless, elegant, and flawlessly balanced. There are few estates coming close to this level of quality in Sonoma with Cabernet Sauvignon, and if you want to taste pure perfection from Sonoma, try this wine! It’s still a baby, and I suspect it will need 8-10 years to hit maturity, but it's going to evolve for 30-40 years. R16-3 -
