Failla 2018 Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir

The 2018 Pinot Noir Occidental Ridge Vineyard is a magnificent, head spinning wine. Inky dark fruit, violet, plum, licorice, hard candy, mint and sweet spice give the 2018 striking aromatic nuance, but it is the wine’s mid-palate depth and unctuous richness that stand out most. Even with all of its overtness and plushness, the 2018 remains light on its fee. That, in essence, is the magic of the Sonoma Coast – the way on which the wines feel ripe but not heavy. Wow. What a wine.

Faiveley 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
$249.99Burgundy France
Decanter Magazine 96 Rating
The wine has an inky dark color and pronounced aromas of blackberry, fig, smoke and spice. The texture is lush, yet there are firm tannins and the wine never seems overbearing or aggressive – everything is kept in elegant balance. Faiveley is the proprietor of three parcels that total 1.27ha in the Clos de Vougeot, including a portion in Grand Maupertuis and two parcels nearer the bottom. The fruit was picked very ripe (14.5%) and partially destemmed before fermentation, with a very careful extraction and ageing in cask (half new). SPBX-6 -

Wine Spectator 95 Rating
Aromatic and loaded with exotic spices, showing sandalwood, incense, strawberry, cherry and anise aromas and flavors. Simultaneously dense and elegant, with fine harmony and a terrific finish. Just keeps building and building on the palate to the long, kaleidoscopic conclusion. Best from 2026 through 2043. 17 cases imported. SPBX-6 -
Faiveley 2020 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru

Exotic, dark and turbo-charged, this wine is wound up with sweet black plums and blackberries, anise and forest floor. It’s definitely a wine for those that like bolder, chunkier Pinots, whether you drink it soon or wait a few decades. Speaking of which, Jérôme feels strongly that it is best to wait ten years before trying this wine. For the less patient, I implore you to wait at least six or seven years! 2026-42. SPBX-6 -

Famiglia Pasqua 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella
$49.99 – $270.00Veneto Italy
Wine Enthusiast 92 Rating
This bottling is an impressive wine from the start. This well-built Amarone has aromas of black cherries, black plums and savory herbs. The palate is lush and full in body, with the fruit flavors showing more tart notes of sour cherry and blueberries. Elegant tannins and well-balanced acidity add to the complexity and age worthiness of the wine. Drink from 2025–2032.

Familia Nin-Ortiz 2016 Nit de Nin Mas d’en Caçador
$99.99 – $540.00Priorat Spain
Wine Advocate 98 Rating
The 2016 Nit de Nin Mas d’en Caçador was produced with grapes from 78- to 113-year-old vines in the Mas d'en Caçador vineyard in Porrera. It's a blend of Garnacha Negra, Garnacha Peluda and Cariñena with some 5% white grapes. It fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts in a 3,200-liter oak vat and matured in a similar 2,700-liter oak vat. It has great balance and is ripe and Mediterranean, without any excess; it's incredibly elegant and has character. In a way, it makes me think of a classical Châteauneuf, with fine tannins and subtle minerality

Familiar Air 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
$89.99 – $450.00California
Jeb Dunnuck 95 Rating
I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Malbec. There are a scant 200 cases made, but it's a brilliant wine loaded with dark, chocolaty fruit as well as hints of flowers and earthy minerality. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, textured, yet always balanced and fresh, I'd be thrilled to drink a bottle any time over the coming 15+ years. BX-6
