Castello di Neive 2019 Barbera d’Alba Superiore
$21.99 – $108.00Piedmont Italy
The Barbera grapes for this wine come from the famed Santo Stefano vineyard which initially caused critics to believe Italo Stupino was crazy as this vineyard is typically reserved for the hallowed Nebbiolo. This 100% Barbera proved them wrong as it expresses the depth for which Santo Stefano is known while still retaining Barbera's signature fruit. The grapes for this wine are pressed and then allowed to mature for 9 months in large wooden vats to allow the wines to mellow and develop their complexity. Dark ruby red in color with hints of crushed raspberries and violets, undertones of herbs, woodland berries and cacao make this wine truly unforgettable. On the palate, velvety tannins and a medium body make for an elegant, yet structured wine. Pairs well with medium-aged cheeses, ragu pasta sauces, truffle-infused Piemontese omelets, and roasted lamb shank.

Very attractive spice and floral aromas in the 2020 Barbaresco include smoky incense, cranberry, and dusty earth. Medium-bodied, it has a nice arch of the fruit throughout, revealing notes of blood orange, raspberry, and dried roses. It has good balance and a clean finish, with loads of citrus propelling the wine forward. Drink 2023-2030.

Castello di Volpaia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva
$39.99Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 97 Rating
Enticing aromas of black cherry, black currant and violet are allied to flavors of iron, wet earth and spice in this red, which is loaded with fruit, vibrant acidity and well-mannered tannins. Shows terrific harmony now, yet possesses the structure to age. The long, mouthwatering finish extends the dark fruit and mineral elements. Best from 2021 through 2040. BX-6 SP47-6 -

Enjoyabilityfactor 92 Rating
Romitòro is an elegant blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot that expresses the benefits of a moderate climate such as Tuscany’s, where vines grow naturally without needing irrigation and yield an excellent quantity and quality of fruit. The resulting wine is a bold Super Tuscan that attests to the fact that French varietals can thrive in Tuscany and give exceptional quality, whilst retaining an undeniably Tuscan character. This wine is aged for approximately 12 months in oak and is unfiltered.

Castiel Estate 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
$189.99Napa Valley California
Jeb Dunnuck 97 Rating
Coming from two sites on Howell Mountain, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a brilliant effort that readers should jump on if given the chance. Classic mountain aromatics of black fruits, tobacco, chocolate, and mineral-like nuances define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and a great finish. The balance is terrific, and this will benefit from just a few years of bottle age and should have 20-25 years of overall longevity. R37-3 -
Castiglion del Bosco 2016 Brunello di Montalcino
$79.99Tuscany Italy
James Suckling 99 Rating
The complexity and beauty to this is really something with cherry, walnut, tobacco and cigar-box character. Sweet cherries. It’s full-bodied and deep with super intensity and power. Layered and beautiful. Really refined tannins. Some whole-berry fermentation gives this added character. Goes on for minutes. Try after 2025. SP48-3 -
Castiglion del Bosco 2018 Brunello di Montalcino
$59.99 – $600.00Tuscany Italy
Wine Advocate 92 Rating
Robust and powerful from the start, the Castiglion del Bosco 2018 Brunello di Montalcino shows broad shoulders and ample brawn. But at the end of the day, the wine's concentration remains on the medium to medium-rich side of the spectrum. It stays firmly within the boundaries of Sangiovese. Dark fruit and blackcurrant segue to savory notes of toasted spice, black olive, earth and rusty nail.
