Chappellet 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Franc
$99.99Napa Valley California

A smoking value, the 2018 Cabernet Franc has textbook Cabernet Franc darker, almost blue fruits as well as gorgeous floral, leather, spice, and incense aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, it has a similar supple elegance that conceals solid underlying tannins and concentration. It can be drunk today with plenty of pleasure, yet a good 3-4 years of bottle age will do it well, and it should evolve gracefully over the following 10-15 years. R10-3 -

Always one of top wines in a vintage, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Pritchard Hill is another gorgeous wine with a more plush, supple texture that hides solid underlying structure and tannins. Beautiful notes of blueberries, new leather, camphor, violets, and smoked tobacco all flow to a full-bodied, seamless, gorgeously textured beauty that's very much in the style of the vintage. Possessing remarkable purity, flawless balance, and building tannins, give bottles 4-5 years of bottle age, count yourself lucky, and enjoy over the following 25+ years. SP24-1 -

It is a marvellously compact and coiled-up wine with a towering structure. Very beautifully fragrant dried purple flowers and herbs. Full-bodied with loads of succulent ripe blackberry, creme de cassis, graphite, and loamy earth. Very firm, tight-grained tannins form the base note of this wine, and the finish is long and rich in wild herbs and spices. Cellar worthy. It will release internationally in September 2024. It is rounded out with 6% Merlot.

Remarkable depth of mature aromas – tons of candied lemon peel, dried pear and brioche – plus wonderful textural richness on the palate make this stand out amongst the regular Brut NVs. Then comes the intense and very long, mineral finish to crown this prince of the category. Based on 2016 base wines, but with 52% reserve wines, almost a third of which were 10 to 20 years of age. Drink or hold.

This bottle of the NV Rosé Réserve was based on the 2008 vintage, with the addition of 20% reserve wines and 5% or 6% of still red wine from Les Riceys in the Aube; it was disgorged in 2017, with 11 grams per liter dosage, meaning that it has spent longer sur lattes than most recent releases of Heidsieck's rosé. Salmon-pink in hue, it unfurls in the glass with a reserved bouquet of red berries, orange rind, brioche and gingerbread that will become more expressive with bottle age. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with brisk acids, a fine but vigorous mousse and a tight-knit, nicely concentrated core, concluding with a saline finish. This is one of the most tensile, age-worthy rosés that I can recall tasting from Charles Heidsieck. Drink through 2038.

Vivid citrus aromas practically leap out of the glass before this lively wine lets lemon zest and grapefruit juice flavors dazzle the palate. Mouthwatering acidity and those bright fruit flavors are appetizing and compelling.
