  • Abbazia di Novacella 2023 Kerner

    $21.99$108.00

    Alto Adige Valle Isarco Italy
    Vinous 91 Rating
The 2023 Kerner is delicately floral in the glass. Sweet spice and candied lime open in the bouquet. Vibrant acidity, saline minerals and tart citrus add a zesty character throughout. The 2023 reverberates with tension through a long, cheek-puckering finale laced with chamomile and lemon zest.

  • Acinum 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella

    $49.99$270.00

    Veneto Italy
    Wine Enthusiast 90 Rating
A dense and opaque wine from the moment it flows in the glass. Dark and brooding on the nose with Black Forest cake, cocoa powder, and dark roast-coffee aromas with a slight herbal note. The palate is mouth filling with coconut, cherry and dark chocolate dominating the palate. If you are looking for lush, very fruit-forward Amarone, this is it.

Balsamic aromas of camphor and leather mingle earthy whiffs of forest floor, violet and wild berry. Savory, focused and youthfully firm, the palate delivers crushed raspberry, star anise and baking spice framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced. Drink 2027–2039.

  • Antinori 2020 Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore

    $134.99$720.00

    Bolgheri Italy
    Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The Marchesi Antinori 2020 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso sees Cabernet Franc at over 30% of the blend in this vintage, with the rest going to Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% to 20% to Merlot. Matarocchio was not produced this year, and this wine benefits from the extra Cabernet Franc as a result. The 2019 and 2021 vintages of Guado al Tasso are quite concentrated and rich, whereas 2020 is leaner in texture, along the lines of the edition we saw made in 2010. There was rain in September. Managing Director Renzo Cotarella says he would not describe 2020 as a hot vintage because the rain did pose challenges at the end of the growing season. In Bolgheri on the Tuscan coast, budbreak is earlier than in other appellations, and the growing season is longer as a result. This is a benefit to the international varieties used here. The wine shows nice richness and intensity. The Cabernet Franc definitely comes through and adds the characteristic vertical lift and linearity that the grape is known for. You get black fruit, spice, white pepper and no signs of bitter stems or bramble. Sweet, almost milky tannins are interlocked with fresh acidity to give this wine good cellaring potential. The new oak was dialed back a bit in this vintage. SPBX-6

  • Antinori 2020 Solaia

    $399.99$2,100.00

    Tuscany Italy
    Antonio Galloni 97 Rating
The 2020 Solaia is an infant. I expected a more exuberant wine, but the 2020 is built along more classic lines. Black cherry, plum, gravel, incense, smoke, pencil shavings and spice all open effortlessly. As always, Solaia is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine, but it is a Cabernet that is distinctly Italian, with plenty of Tuscan acid and structure driving through the mid-palate and into the finish. The 2020 is a terrific example of the recent stylistic shift at Antinori. In the past, richness and opulence were qualities of a vintage that would have been amplified in the vineyard and cellar. Today, the aim is to capture a more balanced expression of these kinds of vintages, and that very much comes through. SPBX-6

  • Antinori 2021 Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Superiore

    $169.99$810.00

    Bolgheri Italy
    Antonio Galloni 98 Rating
The 2021 Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a very beautiful wine, but also quite a departure from the style that made it famous years ago. Readers will find an especially polished Guado al Tasso, a wine that emphasizes finesse more than power. Silky tannins wrap around a core of black cherry fruit, licorice, spice, mocha and new leather. Bright, saline undertones extend the exquisite finish. There’s more Cabernet Franc in the blend these days, and that very much comes through in the wine’s crazy aromatic presence and feel. The 2021 spent 16 months in wood, three months in used French oak barrels during the malolactic fermentation and then 14 months in barrel (80% new) for the rest of its aging. Gorgeous.

  • Antinori 2021 Tignanello

    $159.99

    Tuscany Italy
    Wine Spectator 97 Rating
The currants and spices are very pretty, with some hazelnut undertones. Medium- to full-bodied with juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very structured for a Tignanello, with medium chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very polished and curated with a deft winemaking hand coming through. Needs three or four years to soften, but it’s all there.
