Chateau Clos Marsalette 2018 Red Blend
$39.99 – $210.00Pessac-Leognan Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 93 Rating
The 2018 Clos Marsalette is another winner, offering a ripe, medium to full-bodied, textured, and already delicious style that carries lots of red and black fruits, tobacco, earth, and a touch of spring flower-like aromas and flavors. Possessing beautiful purity, it has ripe, present tannins, yet they're almost covered by a wealth of fruit and extract. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, it's well worth seeking out and is going to shine for 15-20 years. R11-1

The 2019 Château Curton La Perriere is a solid Bordeaux, offering attractive red-fruited, spicy aromatics, medium to full body, a beautifully lush, supple texture, and a great finish. It has surprising mid-palate depth as well as length on the finish, and I'd be happy to drink it on release.

Chateau d’Yquem 2010 Sauternes

Pale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 d'Yquem is just now starting to strut its stuff with gregarious scents emerging of underripe mangos, fresh pineapples, poached pears and candied peel plus nuances of waxed lemons, fungi, musk perfume and wet clay. Wonderfully poised, the seductively intense fruit is offset by beautiful freshness, supporting layer upon layer of savory nut and baked-bread notions with the tantalizing exotic fruits coming through on the long, long finish. For number crunchers: 13.5% alcohol, 138 grams per liter residual sugar, and total acidity is 3.6 grams per liter H2SO4. Tempting to drink now, I’m sensing there are still a lot of latent nuances to be revealed here. So—to get that full Yquem experience—I’d give it another five years in bottle, at least, and drink it over the next 40+ years. SP60-4 -
Chateau de Beaucastel 2020 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Roussanne
$189.99Southern Rhone Valley France
Jeb Dunnuck 98-100 Rating
Even better, the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes comes from a single parcel of very old vines and is 100% Roussanne brought up in barrel. It too is medium to full-bodied and incredibly concentrated, with brilliant white currants, green almond, honeyed mineral, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. The balance is just about perfect, as is the purity of fruit, and this incredible white is one of the top releases in the vintage. As I’ve written in the past, it’s the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône and can evolve for decades in cold cellars. R35-1 -

Including more Mourvèdre than usual (40%), the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape sports a deep ruby/purple hue as well as an utterly classic Beaucastel nose of ripe red and blue fruits, spice, game, truffly earth, and ground pepper. Reminding me of the 2012, it’s medium to full-bodied, has a layered, concentrated md-palate, sweet tannins, and a great finish. SPBX-6

Chateau de Beaucastel 2021 Coudoulet Rouge
$31.99 – $162.00Cotes du Rhone Southern Rhone Valley France
Wine Advocate 92 Rating
A terrific vintage for this wine, which was bottled just a couple of weeks prior to my late June visit, the 2021 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel is a blend of 30% each Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, plus 10% Cinsault. From a vineyard just outside the boundaries of the appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it’s a remarkably consistent wine and always a solid value. Scents of sunbaked stones, black cherries and licorice appear on the nose, joined by hints of purple raspberries and dark chocolate, while the medium to full-bodied palate is lush and velvety, finishing long and complex.

Chateau de Carlmagnvs 2020 Red Blend Fronsac

Wine Advocate 93 Rating
The 2020 Carlmagnus has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and vivacious scents of redcurrant jelly, ripe black plums and boysenberries, plus hints of iron ore, black truffles, lavender and cracked black pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate fills the mouth with intense red and black fruit layers, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and earthy.
