Lustau “San Emilio Solera Reserva” Pedro Ximénez
$34.99 – $336.00Jerez Spain
Wine Enthusiast 93 Rating
With piercing aromas of raisin pudding, molasses and spice, this rolls out the welcome mat and more. Luscious is probably as tame as you can put it; this is a ribald sweet wine with acidic backbone and hugely intense flavors of baked brown sugar, cinnamon cake and molasses. Powerful but still racy due to bracing acidity. About as good as it gets with P.X.

Lustau Solera Los Arcos Dry Amontillado Sherry
$19.99 – $180.00Jerez Spain
Wine Spectator 90 Rating
Aged for equal periods under “flor” and in contact with the oxygen, in Bodega Emperatriz Eugenia in Jerez de la Frontera. This dry Amontillado acquires a genuine, rich and nutty flavor through years of aging. Amber in color, with hazelnut aromas on the nose. Light, soft and round on the palate, with a long aftertaste.

Marques de Caceres 2020 Red Blend
$8.99 – $96.00Rioja Spain
The Tempranillo grapes are aged in American oak for 3 months while the Syrah is aged for 3 months in French oak. The Garnacha sees no oak aging. This regimen gives the wine excellent length and intensity, making it smooth on the palate. Hints of oak are present but barely perceptible.

Marques de Murrieta 2019 Rioja Reserva
$24.99 – $240.00Spain
James Suckling 96 Rating
A precise and polished red with cherry, plum, slate, iron, and powdered earth. It’s medium- to full-bodied with sublime tannins that are beautifully integrated into the wine. It’s structured, yet the tannins are very silky. It’s curated and thoughtful. Two years in American oak (10% new) and 14 months in bottle. Sophisticated and very drinkable, but will age nicely. Drink or hold.

Marques de Murrieta 2020 Rioja Reserva
$27.99 – $132.00Rioja Spain
Wine Advocate 94 Rating
The 2020 Rioja Reserva, their flagship wine, comes from the 300 hectares of estate vineyards. Here, Tempranillo is the backbone, making up 82% of the blend in the low-yielding vintage of 2019, complemented with 8% Graciano, 7% Mazuelo and 3% Garnacha. It has controlled ripeness at 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 5.1 grams of acidity. I loved the aromatics here—floral and elegant, more in the style of the 2018 than the 2019. it’s lighter, more elegant, fine-boned and has a silky texture and very fine tannins. Both 2019 and 2020 are very good, but 2020 is more my style.

Marques de Riscal 2019 Rioja Reserva
$17.99 – $180.00Rioja Spain
James Suckling 92 Rating
Intense black-cherry color with good depth of color and hardly any signs of evolution. Very expressive aromas on the nose with notes of licorice, cinnamon and black pepper, with just a subtle hint of the long cask-ageing, thanks to its great complexity and ripe, concentrated fruit. Fresh and easy to drink on the palate, good backbone and lovely, polished tannins. The long, persistent finish leaves gentle balsamic reminders of the finest quality.

This wine offers aromas of grapefruit, lemon zest and chopped parsley. Flavors of peach and apricot are joined by brilliant acidity and notes of dried thyme and vanilla and a touch of honeysuckle that sticks around for a bit.

Muga El Anden De La Estacion 2019 Crianza
$19.99 – $102.00Rioja Spain
Wine Advocate 92 Rating
The 2019 El Andén de la Estación is a new red that takes advantage of the Barrio de la Estación, the train station neighborhood of Haro. It's a Crianza with less extraction, looking for the elegance and finesse of the classical Rioja wines. It's a blend of Tempranillo from their younger vines and Garnacha (that they buy) that matured in French and European barrels for 14 months. It's a quaffable red with lots of Garnacha character (it might represent up to 30% of the blend, by far the highest in Garnacha from the portfolio). It's floral, juicy and expressive, very open and approachable.

Very pretty aromas of honeysuckle, apple and pear with hints of stone. Medium body. Crisp and vivid with a stony undertone. Crisp and delicious. Blend of mostly viura with garnacha blanca and malvasia. Only 60% wood in this.
