Argiolas Costamolino 2022 Vermentino
$14.99 – $156.00Sardinia Italy
Vermentino often shows the fragrance of macchia, the mix of evergreen shrubs and herbs that typifies the Sardinian landscape. Costamolino hints at aromas of pine and mint coupled with ripe stone fruit and sweet citrus. The palate is at once vibrant and textural and finishes with lingering acidity.

The 2014 Proprietary Red Variation One is an equal-part blend of Syrah and Merlot. Influence of the mystic and great winemaker/producer John Kongsgaard can be seen in this beauty, which has a dense purple color, a big blast of blue and black fruits, excellent acidity and freshness, with hints of meat, chocolate and spice. This full-bodied, youthful and unevolved, full-throttle red wine is individualistic, singular and should age well for 15 or more years. This is a winner and creative as well. Drink it over the next 20+ years.

Tasted after the other 2015s in this range, the Quartet, Arietta's entry-level offering, does not show a demonstrably significant drop in quality, which is probably the highest compliment I can pay it. Hints of raspberry jam, cedar, smoke and licorice add shades of nuance throughout. What a pretty wine this is. PRG

Lots of bright red fruit on the nose and palate, together with dried and fresh herbs. Medium-bodied with medium tannins and a fresh, lightly firm finish. Good substance, but lacks a bit of depth on the palate for now. Although it drinks well even now, I would give this a chance to broaden out.

This is a SMOKING VALUE in Central Coast Chardonnay. It has all the goods and delivers them well. It's notes of Pear, Honey and Flowers are beautiful. Very fleshy and balanced on the palate with some fine toasty notes from barrel aging. It way over-delivers for the price!

Aspirant de Beychevelle 2018 Saint-Julien
$39.99 – $210.00Bordeaux France
Let’s start with the territory. We are in Saint-Julien, a renowned wine region located in the Bordeaux region. Here, the production is mainly focused on red wines, especially from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape. Known for their elegance, structure and longevity. Saint-Julien extends over a relatively small territory. Despite this, it is home to some of the most prestigious wineries in the Bordeaux region. Here, the soils are rich in pebbles that ensure good drainage, creating the ideal conditions for growing vines. This is particularly the case of Beychevelle, whose vines are located on the magnificent gravel slopes that slope down to the Garonne and in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde. In addition, the presence of the two rivers guarantees a beneficial and regulating effect on the climate. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, this red Bordeaux fully respects the soul of its terroir of origin. Garnet red and compact, the nose reveals notes of black fruits, with notes of cedar and aromatic herbs. On the palate, on the other hand, it reveals a pleasantly full-bodied wine, with firm and well-integrated tannins. Juicy and flavorful, it has a well-balanced structure, with a savory finish. An excellent “second wine” of the Château, it is perfect to accompany meat-based lunches and dinners. Its value for money is also excellent.
