Domaine Huet 2018 Le Haut Lieu Moelleux Vouvray
$49.99Loire Valley France
Wine Advocate 93 Rating

The 2018 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux is clear and seductively ripe on the elegant, still yeasty nose with a mineral backbone and its chalky background. Sweet and lush but fine and filigreed on the palate, this is a salty, frisky, elegant, densely woven and well-structured Haut-Lieu with fine tannins and a long, complex finish that is rich and finessed at the same time, with lingering piquancy and stimulating salinity. This 2018 is a very charming but also serious Chenin Blanc with fine tannins, good tension and aging potential. R33-5 -
Domaine Huet 2020 Vouvray Demi Sec Le Haut-Lieu
$39.99Loire Valley France
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2020 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Demi-Sec is clear, pure, subtle, deep and fresh, with highly refined chalky/sandy lemon aromas. Rich and intense yet silky textured and refined on the concentrated palate, this is a juicy, highly elegant, perfectly balanced, persistently salty and mouth-salivating Haut-Lieu with very fine tannins and a long, firm and pretty powerful but elegant and complex finish. Still more stringent than the Le Mont Demi-Sec in the beginning, but after aeration, this is not just a greatly finessed Chenin but one of the finest Haut-Lieu’s I have tasted from Huet. BX-9 R8-8 -
Domaine Jean Grivot 2022 Vosne-Romanee
$124.99Cote de Nuits Burgundy France
Decanter Magazine 94 Rating
The attractive medium-deep ruby color announces a pleasantly ripe plummy fruit with nuance of smoke and earth. The texture is supple, and yet there is sufficient tension and grip to draw this out to a lingering finish. It is still ageing in cask (20% new) and will be bottled in March according to the moon’s phase. It is a true ‘cuvée ronde’, a blend of 10 climats from around the village from the top, such as Aux Champs Perdrix, to the base of the slope at Pré de la Folie. SP1-6 -

Made from 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, from 40- to 70-year-old vines, the 2013 Rasteau La Fontaine is a gorgeous effort that has classic Rasteau richness and depth, yet also shows a seamless, elegant and classy style. Black raspberry, currants, ground herbs and pepper all emerge from this full-bodied, nicely concentrated effort, and while it has a soft, supple feel, it should evolve nicely for 4-5 years. Located in Rasteau, this small, family run estate was create by Georges Perrot, who bottled his first wine in 2002 while renting cellar space from Andre Romero of Domaine Soumade. SWS -
Domaine La Tour Vieille 2022 Banyuls Rimage 500ml
$29.99Languedoc Roussillon France
Grenache is picked slightly overripe, and only ferments briefly with whole bunches before alcohol is added, thereby stopping fermentation while there is still a considerable amount of residual sugar in the wine. The wine then macerates for another approx. 6 weeks before pressing. The palette is round and soft, without becoming alcohol-heavy. Here are lots of both red and black berries, and a nice little seasoning at the end.

The 2019 Côtes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is a blend of 70% Syrah (vinified as whole bunches and aged in 20% new demi-muids) and 30% Grenache (destemmed and aged in concrete). Hints of peppery spice, vanilla and woodsmoke accent the blueberry-scented nose, while the full-bodied palate is ripe, supple and concentrated, adding hints of black cherries, chocolate and licorice on the long finish.

All old vine Carignan, the 2019 Côtes Catalanes Tessellae from Jean-Marc Lafage offers a beautifully pure nose of red and blue fruits, brambly herbs, violets, and leather. This carries to a medium to full-bodied red with silky tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It has impressive purity as well as elegance and is going to keep for 2-4 years.
