Pedigree with attitude! This sophisticated Cabernet Sauvignon offers pure aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, creme de cassis, roasted chestnuts and dried wildflowers. Secondary notes of black cardamom, mocha, cappuccino foam and granite powder add dimension and complexity. Powerful yet elegant. Concentrated yet balanced. The palate is laden with rich black fruit flavors, currants, graphite, exotic spice box and a graceful minerality. While a delicious experience now, watch the Oakville Cabernet blossom over the next two decades. SP21-1 -

A hedonistically, opulent expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville. Juicy ripe blackberries, black currants, crushed granite and honeyed black raspberries sing from the glass. Notes of black cardamom, freshly picked violets, graphite and chaparral complete the aromatic landscape of this wine. Savory, balanced and amazingly concentrated; this wine possesses explosive flavors of black and purple fruits pinned together with incredible minerality. Enjoy over the next 20 years or more. R42-3

A rich red, marked by a mix of black cherry, blackberry, wild herbs and iron. This is mostly about the fruit, with a dense matrix of tannins providing structure. Fine length. Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. Best from 2024 through 2035.

Marques de Caceres 2020 Red Blend
$8.99 – $96.00Rioja Spain
The Tempranillo grapes are aged in American oak for 3 months while the Syrah is aged for 3 months in French oak. The Garnacha sees no oak aging. This regimen gives the wine excellent length and intensity, making it smooth on the palate. Hints of oak are present but barely perceptible.

Marques de Murrieta 2019 Rioja Reserva
$24.99 – $240.00Spain
James Suckling 96 Rating
A precise and polished red with cherry, plum, slate, iron, and powdered earth. It’s medium- to full-bodied with sublime tannins that are beautifully integrated into the wine. It’s structured, yet the tannins are very silky. It’s curated and thoughtful. Two years in American oak (10% new) and 14 months in bottle. Sophisticated and very drinkable, but will age nicely. Drink or hold.

Marques de Murrieta 2020 Rioja Reserva

The 2020 Rioja Reserva, their flagship wine, comes from the 300 hectares of estate vineyards. Here, Tempranillo is the backbone, making up 82% of the blend in the low-yielding vintage of 2019, complemented with 8% Graciano, 7% Mazuelo and 3% Garnacha. It has controlled ripeness at 14% alcohol, with a pH of 3.65 and 5.1 grams of acidity. I loved the aromatics hereāfloral and elegant, more in the style of the 2018 than the 2019. it’s lighter, more elegant, fine-boned and has a silky texture and very fine tannins. Both 2019 and 2020 are very good, but 2020 is more my style.
