Description

Domaine Louis Latour 2020 Meursault Burgundy France
Aromas of ripe apples and lemons with a lavender and honeysuckle undertone. It’s full-bodied with lovely firmness and form that gives the wine tension and focus. Hints of hay to the bright fruit in the aftertaste.

Yves Boyer-Martenot 2020 Meursault Les Tillets Burgundy France
The 2020 Meursault Les Tillets opens with notes of crisp green apple, freshly baked bread, white flowers and crushed mint. Medium-bodied, satiny and elegant, it’s lively and precise, with a pretty core of fruit and a mouthwatering finish.

Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay 2015 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru Burgundy France
The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru shows a lot of reduction on the nose that makes the fruit and terroir difficult to read at the moment. The palate probably indicates the potential more than the aromatics, offering brambly red and black fruit, a sprinkle of white pepper and hints of dried orange peel toward the refined, persistent finish. This certainly requires time in bottle but the potential is here. Patience, please. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Lecheneaut 2016 Nuits-Saint-Georges Au Chouillet Vieilles Vignes Burgundy France
Pure and elegant, delivering cherry, berry, floral and spice aromas and flavors. Firmly structured, with a line of refined tannins shoring up the finish. Patience will be rewarded here. Best from 2023 through 2040.

Domaine Rapet Père & Fils 2016 Corton Grand Cru Burgundy France
Once again there is a subtle application of wood framing the much earthier and more somber dark berry aromas that still manage to retain an appealing freshness. The lavishly rich yet muscular big-bodied flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel before concluding in a less mineral-driven but more powerful finish that is a bit less youthfully austere than it usually is. This too should age effortlessly though it appears as though it will be accessible after only 5 to 7.

Chateau de Marsannay 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Cote de Nuits Burgundy France
A wine with a beautiful complexity that elegantly blends spices and black fruits. Expressive nose with kirsch and spicy notes. The mouth reveals firm and precise tannins with long finish.

Gerard Raphet 2019 Morey Saint Denis Burgundy France
The wines of Gérard Raphet are a Burgundy lover’s Burgundy. While the wine’s color in the glass is a delicate ruby, aromas and flavors surprise with their forceful intensity. This contrast often catches the uninitiated off guard, yet it is part of the attraction and seduction of these limited and highly sought-after wines.

Domaine Aurelien Verdet 2019 Hautes Cotes de Nuits Le Prieure Côte-de-Nuits Burgundy France
Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Le Prieuré is medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming, with lively acids, melting tannins and a succulent, spice-inflected finish. Deeper than the 2017 and more elegant than the 2018, this gets my nod as the finest Le Prieuré of the three.

Louis Jadot 2020 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Cote de Beaune Cote d’Or Burgundy France
A picture of elegance and finesse, with cherry, strawberry, floral and stony mineral aromas and flavors, this red is charming and seamless enough to enjoy now yet will improve with age. Fine-grained tannins and bright acidity provide structure, while the finish lingers. Best from 2024 through 2042.
