This will be a small, sit-down, intimate tasting.
Aubert 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast California
Elegant farming. This simple phrase describes our vineyard management style. It involves creating out of the soil a luxury product, wine. The ability to work in concert with the vines’ rhythmic cycle allows our winemaking vision to come to fruition. We are scrupulous in selecting the vineyards we entrust with the Aubert promise. Patience is a cornerstone of wine; therefore, all Aubert Estates and contracted vineyards are established with a “Fifty Years of Production” expectation consisting of high quality, low yield grape harvests.
Chateau Phelan Segur 2016 Saint-Estephe Bordeaux France
Jeb Dunnuck 94 Rating
Showing beautifully on multiple occasions, the 2016 Château Phélan Ségur is incredibly impressive and reveals a saturated purple as well as pure cassis, violets, damp earth, lead pencil, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Beautifully layered and textured, concentrated, with fine tannins and the purity and elegance that make the vintage so compelling front and center, it’s a high-class Saint Estèphe to enjoy over the coming 20-25 years or more.
Castello di Bolgheri 2015 Bolgheri Superiore Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 96 Rating
This is a plump and generous wine that shows the exuberance, softness and richness of the vintage. The 2015 Bolgheri Superiore is teeming with dark fruit aromas that segue to spice, leather and cured tobacco. You get a pretty touch of balsamic herb as well with overtones of Mediterranean rosemary or garden herb. Castello di Bolgheri gets better and better each time I come back to taste a new vintage of this top-shelf wine. The blend in 2015 is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.
Canard Vineyard 2015 The Rescuer Merlot Napa Valley California
Named after Reason P. Tucker, who lead the efforts to rescuer the survivors of the ill fated Donner Party and who also built the farmhouse in 1859 on what is now Canard Vineyard. We pay homage to Pomerol with this Merlot driven proprietary blend. It shows star anise, crushed clove, dried sage and black cherry on the nose. Ultra fat mid palate yields to a silky smooth finish of cinnamon toast, fresh blueberries and coffee that will stay with you for a long time. Aged in French oak to create a long- term, age worthy blend. This wine will cellar very well for 15+ years. 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc. 19 months in new and neutral French oak. Cooperages: LeRoy and Fouquet. Only 247 cases made.
Cesari Il Bosco 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Veneto Italy
A slightly more accessible wine from a terrific vintage, the Cesari 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico has lifted or volatile aromas of dried cherry skin and red apple. This wine is released with an ample 280,000 frost-coated bottles produced. The blend is 75% Corvina Veronese, 20% Rondinella and 5% of two unknown grapes called Rossignola and Negrara. There is some heaviness to the bouquet with baked fruit and dark spice.
B Cellars 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Ehrlich Vineyard Napa Valley California
Wine Advocate 96 Rating
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Ehrlich Vineyard is from another spot in Oakville. The production of this wine is 750 cases of unfined and unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon. B Cellars is starting to get my attention and is one of the more exciting and newer producers in Napa Valley, and although they’ve been at it for a while, I have never tasted wines of this quality from them. This is spectacular Cabernet Sauvignon that offers up cedar wood, blackcurrants, blueberry, incense and graphite. It is full-bodied, powerful and rich, but with sweet tannin and the 2014 hallmark of suppleness and charm. Quite deep, opulent and stunningly rich, drink it over the next 20 years.
