Domaine Alain Chavy 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay Burgundy France $33.99
Enjoyabilityfactor 92 Rating
Made from 100% Chardonnay, with aromas of green apple and lemon, and on the palate apples, pear, hazelnut, creamy lychee notes. Aging in a small percentage of new French oak barrels lends accents of toast and vanilla.
Domaine de la Chapelle 2023 Pouilly-Fuisse Les Grands Climats Burgundy France $39.99
Located in the heart of the appellation, in the hamlet of Pouilly, the Domaine de la Chapelle covers 7.42 hectares. The average age of the vines is about 60 years. This allows us to harvest highly concentrated grapes for better vintages. An advantageous microclimate (south, south-east exposure), combined with a marly clay-limestone soil, allows the Chardonnay grape variety to express itself fully. Very environmentally friendly cultivation method (ploughing of the soil, exclusively organic fertiliser, etc.). The harvest is entirely manual.
Bouchard Pere & Fils 2018 Beaune Clos de la Mousse Premier Cru Monopole Burgundy France $69.99
Wine Spectator 93 Rating
This is elegant, succulent and packed with cherry and black currant fruit, wrapped in spice and toasty oak accents. It hints at floral and mineral elements too, as the long aftertaste winds down on the finish. It’s solidly built and complex. Best from 2023 through 2036.
Faiveley 2020 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru Burgundy France $249.99
TimAtkin.com 97 Rating
Exotic, dark and turbo-charged, this wine is wound up with sweet black plums and blackberries, anise and forest floor. It’s definitely a wine for those that like bolder, chunkier Pinots, whether you drink it soon or wait a few decades. Speaking of which, Jérôme feels strongly that it is best to wait ten years before trying this wine. For the less patient, I implore you to wait at least six or seven years! 2026-42.
Château de Chamirey 2019 Mercurey Clos du Roi Premier Cru Burgundy France $69.99
Wine Spectator 92 Rating
Boasts bright cherry and blackberry fruit wrapped in a harmonious cloak of vanilla, sandalwood and sweet spices. Silky and balanced, with the flavors lingering nicely as this fades gracefully. Shows excellent length. Drink now through 2032.
Gerard Raphet 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champs Chenys Vieilles Vignes Burgundy France $89.99
Dark cherry, pomegranates, iron, damp earth, and baking space. The wine was darker than the previous vintage in the glass, but with a brighter finish. Smile-educing.
Domaine Lucien Boillot & Fils 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Cote de Nuits Burgundy France $89.99
This Gevrey-Chambertin 2019 from Domaine Lucien Boillot is intense ruby with still purplish reflections. The nose is pleasant, combining black fruits with a well-melted woodiness. The palate is rich, structured, powerful with relatively fine tannins. Ripe red fruits stand out.
Gerard Raphet 2018 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Burgundy France $249.99
Here too there is just enough wood to remark upon serving as a backdrop for the more deeply pitched aromas of plum, dark raspberry and warm earth scents. This dusty and delicious effort should also reward up to a decade of cellaring. The palate is full-bodied there’s no arguing otherwise and unfolds with dense, concentrated layers of dark berry liqueur and crushed minerals. Even with such a luxurious, palate-coating mouthfeel, it never loses sight of its blue-blooded Burgundian identity. One for the Burgundy purists
